Academic Computing Progress Log
  • Jan 2000 - replaced 125 computers in rooms c409, 413, 415 a, 415b and c309 with 500 MHz Pentium III' s and Trinitron monitors. New printers and projectors.
  • Jan 2000 - Opened up the newely renovated c302 with 25 Power Mac G4 computers. New printers and projector.
  • Jan 2000 - Opened up newely renovated c307 with 25 high end PC computers and accessories.
  • Jan 2000 - Faculty development lab will be open by mid - late Feb.
  • Jan 2000 - New projectors are in. We are awaiting carts.
  • Jan 2000 - Software in c227 , 228,& 230 has been redone. Added newest versions of Lectra, Infodesign, U4ia, Photoshop 5.5, Dreamweaver, Flash, After Effects, and others.
  • Jan 2000 - PC Network server renovation is completed and running very fast.
  • Jan 2000 - Director 7 (Mac) is now in c231 and 232. Dreamweaver 3 is now in c302 and c231.
  • Jan 2000 - Installed 11 color and B & W printers. Installed several new scanners.
  • Dec 99 - Academic Computing Internet Guide goes online. This, ongoing project is meant to be a resource for faculty and students.
  • Nov 99 - Teaching Alcove set up in C305 near the window.. Temporary white board installed. Large white board has been ordered. Room is now working fine.
  • Nov 99 - Timbuk 2 now installed in C305 to mirror teachers station on several student workstations. Will be standardized in all Mac rooms. This solves the syncing problems with our previous 2 monitor set up.
  • Nov 99 - Y2k work continues. New progress report on our website here. NT service pac 6 released (hope it is the last). Everything seems ok at present.
  • Nov 99- One Mac workstation is being put in each PC room on the 2nd floor to facilitate PC students with Mac disks. These stations will be networked to each rooms "Transport" We have ordered copies of DAVE. When the copies arrive the machines will go on line. These machines are recycled from C307B which is officially now off line. We will attempt to do the same with a PC in each Mac room when new PC's come in.
  • Nov 99 - Academic Computing Web database now up and running. Information is being added by staff.
  • Nov 99 - Planning continues on new rooms C307 (PC)and C302 (Mac).
  • Nov 99 - Much student art has come in and we will begin to update the display cases later this month.
  • Nov 99 - Norton Ghost site license ordered. Will allow remote ghosting and scripting.
  • Nov 99 - Director 7 arrived but did not work with new G3's. Macromedia sent us an update and it is being installed as this is being written.
  • Nov 99 - HP Black and White printers have had their firmware upgraded to the latest up grade 8.xx.
  • Nov 99 - Work continues on the new NT/Linux domain "the dreaming". This along with the new client for C227,C 228, C229, C230 will upgrade software versions and y2k compliance.
  • Oct 99 - Finished New c231 lab . 30 stations now being used. This is a gain of 5 new seats.
  • Oct 99 - Finished new classroom in c305. 22 stations now being used.
  • Oct 99 - Tech room is wired and technicians have moved in.
  • Oct 99- Put up realtime messaging server and clients now being used by the staff. Threaded newsgroups will facilitate our continuing documentation project.
  • Oct 99 - Academic Computing Web database is up.
  • Oct 99 - New printers in c230 and c305.
  • Oct 99 - Began work on new NT/Linux Domain "thedreaming" and client.
  • Oct 99 - Continued work on AC Online website. Forms being tested.
  • Oct 99 - Collecting of student art work for display cases continues.
  • Oct 99 - Director 7 is in. Will be put in classrooms as soon as possible.
  • Oct 99 - Streamlined Universal client with network licenses for all applications is now complete on the Macintosh side.
  • Oct 99 - Capital Automation donations are in and set up with the new tables.
  • Oct 99 -Hosted Monarch Pointcarre industry training in c231 that turned out very successful.
  • Oct 99 -Hosted Apple demonstration in c205.
  • Oct 99 - y2k project continues. Microsoft application testing complete. Norton 2000 BIOS tests underway.
  • Sept 99 - Integrated Linux servers into "7DS" NT domain using Samba (SMB).
  • Sept 99 - Created "secure" Virtual Web domains for each classroom. These are now being tested in several PC rooms (Mac coming soon). Will be integrated into the desktop of every AC workstation.
  • Sept 99 - Created new network volume "Mac2PC" that connects all faculty stations within Academic Computing. Increases "supervised" connectivity between rooms across both platforms.
  • Sept 99- Added Illustrator 8, Photoshop 5.5, Quark 4.04, BBedit Lite, - Expecting U4ia 5, Lectra 3, and Photoshop 5.5 for PC.
  • Sept 99 - Rebuilt all Mac stations in rooms 232, 231, & 205 from ground up.
  • Sept 99 - Re-ghosted c227, c228, c230, c309, c409, c413, c415a, c415b.
  • Sept 99 - Moved to Mac OSX Server (BSD Unix) for classroom Transports.
  • Sept 99 - Completed New Revision of Academic Computing FAQ's
  • Sept 99 - Put up the new AC Online website
  • Sept 99 - Began planning major upgrades for the 3d and 4th floors.
  • Sept 99 - Purchased new Mac lab - G3 400Mhz - Awaiting monitor delivery before installation.
  • Sept 99 - Moved to Network license scheme for Quark Express and Adobe Illustrator 8.
  • Sept 99 - Added Suitcase on all faculty (Mac) stations and 6 seats in c231 lab.
